Q & A: What surprised you the most?

This week I donated blood and I got to chatting with my phlebotomist, Leila, about our work and why we like our jobs. She asked me: what’s the thing that surprised you the most when you were learning all about menstrual cycles?

There are so many things I’ve learned about menstrual cycles that are fascinating, that I love learning about, that make me feel in awe of our bodies. Who can choose just one?! I did my best to answer Leila’s question and I wanted to share my answer in this email.

One of the things that surprised me when I learned it is this: Your whole body benefits from reproductive hormones.

Estrogen and progesterone are the dominant hormones that run your menstrual cycle. Estrogen and progesterone also work together to influence your brain cells, bones, breast tissue, blood vessels, blood sugar, blood clotting, sleep, relaxation, and well-being. Balanced and healthy reproductive hormone function is vital to your physical, mental and emotional health.

If learning this sparks a follow up question or feelings of “wow, why don’t I know this?!” like it did for me and for Leila, book a personal consultation to get the answers you need.
